Multi-talented independent artist, presenter at Reprezent Radio, and editor at Talk Sport, Marz Fay, catches her audience’s attention with this saucy new single, 'Straight Girl'. This one is CATCHY.

Coming out of South London, Marz Fay knows who she is; she embodies an understated confidence and style, cleverly mixing hip-hop, indie, pop and rock throughout her songs. She’s been on a roll over the last year; releasing her first EP as-well as 4 other singles.

In our interview, Marz explains how she wasn’t planning to release the song and was unsure about releasing it due to its 'explicit' nature, however after receiving such positive feedback on TikTok, she decided to let go of anything holding her back as this is her truth. She says she was most nervous about her family hearing it, but felt she was representing the LGBT community with this song and was proud to make a song so relatable for others to take in.

The song is about Marz meeting a girl who identifies as her sexual orientation being straight, yet as time goes on feels the girl is flirting with her and as they begin to spend more time together, there are feelings involved but the girl still calls herself straight. Lyrically, the song plays out a storyline about the relationship and embodies a confident tone of voice and entertaining nature as Marz says "you don't f*** with girls so why you call me back? Touching up my thighs it's clear we way more than just friends. But imma sit back let you live and play pretend, emotions aren't involved until you figure out your head" and "Imma keep it smooth like a criminal won't say too much gonna keep it nonchalant but I see you coming back for more..".

Marz Fay’s sweet angelic voice has a minuscule roughness to it which makes it even more interesting to listen to. She has a gripping flow, keeping her listeners engaged throughout the whole song.

Straight Girl's music video is a storyline about a boy who has a girlfriend with Marz having relations with his girl. The music video was written and directed by Marz herself and is a very complex video, with it being a 4 minute 30 second song. There are a lot of scenes including an acting scene at the end which reflects the story of the song. Check it out here.

The single cover is also dope. It is an illustration of a guy sat with his girlfriend at a bus stop, with Marz sat next to her and holding hands with the girl behind his back. This picture symbolises the meaning of the song utterly. The backdrop is the London City skyline and is a fantastic homage to Marz's home city.

In our interview, Marz talks about how she went to Manchester to film reactions from the public, and it was received really well. It was also a good way of promotion and capturing content. Marz also talks about her struggles in the industry with people pushing her to ensure she doesn't just target one type of person, and how the industry has a reputation to not let lesbian artists represent themselves as they would like.
