Rising Afro-fusion artist Dutchy enters the scene with his new single 'WBTS Freestyle', standing for 'Won't Be The Same' - Dutchy's new slogan. Within the first 10 seconds of listening to the song, the sample provides an ambivalent vibe, which mirrors the topics discussed throughout the song and its reflective nature. The song revolves around the 'come up' of a young man "walking through troubled water"; rising above certain battles, including street life and lack of freedom.
"The song is about not wanting things to be the same, levelling up, wanting more out of life, believing and knowing that things are about to change for me and the people around me. Also expressing how I felt at that specific point in time."
The music video for 'WBTS Freestyle' was filmed and edited by ELI.SHOT.EM and shot in Essex and London. From watching the video, I feel it has a focus around his love keeping him going throughout the trials and tribulations of life.
Dutchy, being raised in the Netherland's and having moved to London at the age of 12, grew up listening to Dutch music, American music, Nigerian and African music, which is where he draws a lot of his musical inspiration from. Having started writing music at age 11, music was always a passion for him. He found his feet with the idea of having a career in music whilst at university when he released his first song 'Can't Stop' - released on GRM Daily's YouTube channel. Dutchy's catchy hooks cause his songs to be easily grasped by his listeners.
"I'm an artist that’s not scared to express myself. Depending on the beat selection and the mood I’m in, I can create a vibe. What makes me unique is my voice - my tonality. I don’t think I sound like anyone and I’m able to use that to my advantage as well as play around with it."
